What does a comprehensive home energy audit include?
The comprehensive home energy audit is the first step toward improving your home’s energy efficiency and comfort, while reducing your utility bills. Rather than focus on a single component of your home, such as single-paned windows, your BPI-certified contractor will assess how improvements to your whole house can work together to make your home more comfortable and efficient.
The contractor will test for air leakage using a blower door, and may do an infrared scan of your home. He or she will also conduct combustion-related tests, and will evaluate your home’s insulation, heating and cooling systems, lighting, and appliances. This ENERGY STAR video will tell you what to expect from a home energy audit.
