It's all about safety, first and foremost
A Viega S-NO-ICE system will eliminate ice and snow from your walkways and driveway thereby preventing potential accidents.
It's Convenient
Viega S-NO-ICE systems effectively melt snow and ice so you never have to shovel. The S-NO-ICE control automatically turns the system on when needed so you do not even need to be at home for it to operate flawlessly.
It's about accessibility
Come and go as you please because you do not have to wait for the snow plow, shovel or wrestle with a snowblower.
It adds value to your home
You'll not only enjoy clean, clear pavement, you'll also have higher resale value.
It's your property protection
With a Viega S-NO-ICE System you will not need salt or sand so it won't be tracked into your house to mar the floors. You eliminate pollution of the ground water and free yourself from springtime clean up of plow damage.
It's proven
The Viega electronically crosslinked Pextron tubing is extremely durable and resists corrosion in tough outdoor conditions. We offer a 25 year warranty on our tubing. Originally developed for under sea cable, Viega tubing has been subjected to rigorous testing procedures. It has a proven track record of strength, durability and resistance to
Frequenly Asked Questions
- What is a S-NO-ICE system?
A S-NO-ICE system circulates a warm anti-freeze solution through Pextron tubing to melt snow, ice and frost in driveways and walkways.
- What is Pextron tubing?
Pextron is a proven electronically crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) tubing material that is flexible yet very durable. The crosslinking process actually restructures the molecules of the polyethylene so that they are formed similarly to a chain-link fence. This molecular structure gives the tubing enormous strength and superb longevity. Pextron tubing includes an oxygen diffusion barrier to protect your heating system from corrosion.
- What are the benefits of a Viega S-NO-ICE system?
Safety - no slippery walkways
Safety - no back, heart, or other muscle strain from shoveling
Reduces liability issues
No chemicals
Immediate access - no waiting for plow
- What are the advantages over using salt and/or sand?
With a Viega S-NO-ICE System you will not need salt or sand so it won't be tracked into your house to mar the floors. You eliminate pollution of the ground water and free yourself from springtime clean up.
- Can a S-NO-ICE system handle large amounts of snow?
Snow melting systems can be designed to accommodate snow fall rates for all locations. The heat load required will depend upon your location and environment.
- Why is S-NO-ICE more cost effective?
Snow melting with warm fluids like anti-freeze is less costly than using electrical heat, as the fuel for the boiler is usually less expensive than electricity. Additionally, with a S-NO-ICE system, there are no metal wires to corrode and no high voltage in the ground.
- Isn't it easier to use a plow service?
Some of our customers choose to use a plow service in the larger areas of their driveways. They then install the S-NO-ICE System in areas that the plow does not easily get to, such as in front of the garage doors and along walkways. It is very common and sensible to continue the S-NO-ICE System right into the garage. Slightly heated garage floors dry out moisture brought in on vehicles which reduces rusting problems on automobiles and eliminates moisture tracked into the house.
- How is S-NO-ICE installed?
Pextron tubing is run throughout the area to be heated. Concrete is then poured over the tubing for a permanent, trouble free system. S-NO-ICE systems can also be installed under asphalt or pavers.
- Can I connect the S-NO-ICE system to my existing boiler?
That depends on how big an area you want to melt. Your heating contractor can estimate your heating requirements and see if your system has the necessary capacity.
- Can I connect S-NO-ICE to my radiant floor heating system?
Yes. All components work together. Ask your heating contractor about boiler size and manifold requirements.
- What about leaks?
Pextron tubing will not degrade in concrete. Viega high-quality brass fittings ensure leak-proof connections.
- What kind of warranty is offered?
Viega offers a 25-year limited warranty on Pextron tubing.
- What happens when I'm away from home?
S-NO-ICE systems use automatic controls to turn them on and off. You don't need to manually activate the system, so if it snows at night or while you are away the driveway remains clear.
- What maintenance is required on a snow melting system?
Viega snow melting equipment requires no regular maintenance. Anti-freeze solutions should be checked annually to determine glycol concentration, and corrosion inhibitor concentrations should be checked periodically as well. Refer to procedures recommended by your installer or the glycol manufacturer for details.
